Abu Baha

(Abu Farwa x Surrab)

Chestnut Stallion

 Foaled 1948

Bred by H.H.Reese

This stallion was sold as a foal to James Ward, who has owned him ever since, with Dr. Hennessey leasing him for several years. Abu Baha was never compaigned or even advertised lavishly, yet his record is oustanding as a sire. He was champion at several shows and won in stock and western pleasure classes. Abu Baha is a full brother to Shazada(6 chs), their sire being Abu Farwa and their dam Surrab. The latter is by *Latif, imported en utero, his dam being the Polish mare *Lassa. The seemingly impossible situation of a Polish import being sired by an American stallion is due to *Latif's sire, Antez, being sold to Poland in the 1930's---although re-sold back after only a few crops in that country- which has none of his descendants today. *Lassa's sire, Koheilan I, sired three Derby winners in Poland, among other outstanding individuals. *Lassa herself was a champion in early Arab shows in America, and was 4th prize winner under saddle, at the Illinois State Fair-all other winners being stallions. In the lower line of the pedigree Abu Baha includes such distinguished horses as Ronek (ch. and 5-gaited horse), a son of *Raseyn and *Bahreyn, plus other Crabbet animals such as Daoud and Hilmyeh and *Abu Zeyd-of Crabbet breeding but not obtained from that Stud. Abu Baha has two Skowronek lines, but is anything but inbred.
