Alla Amarward

A lla Amarward one of the three leading American Arabian sires owned by H H Reese, and the first stallion that Herbert Harshman Reese bought for his new Arabian establishment in Corbina, California. Soon after buying Alla Amarward, he bought Ferseyn, and then Abu Farwa. Alla was bred to a variety of different mares, some much better than others, because Reese kept his stud fees low ( $200 ) so he could help others upgrade their horses with his three stallions, even when his stallions achieved national fame. Alla held a special place in Herbert and his wife Grayce, in fact Grayce claimed Alla as her very own. Alla became a very successful sire, of both purebred and partbred Arabians. His partbred palomino son Gold Alla sold for the sum of $12,500 when he was just 18 months old, not a bad price for the 1940's. Alla's sire Stambul was a beautiful grey, owned then by the U.S. Remount Service, as his sire, El Sabok before him. Alla's dam, Makina, was a pure Davenport mare, said to have been a very fast runner, which she probably inherited from her grandsire *Hamrah, who was also said to be very fast.

Alla Amarward was very handsome in his youth, but in old age lost alot of his looks. Alla was a bright, rich chestnut, with a flaxen mane, and a very pleasing, typey head, with large, dark, lustrous eyes, a chiseled head, and tiny ears. His neck was fine when young, but as he aged it got heavy, and became very unatractive. He had better than average shoulders, and good legs. All in all, Alla was a very beatiful horse when he was younger, and in his prime. Alla was well known for his excellent disposition, and for passing it on to his offspring. But, he did have a sense of humor. He used to wait for someone to appear, a visitor, who didn't know him, and flatten his ears, open his mouth, and charge screaming! Of course the stranger would run in alarm (which really seemed to amuse Alla) or be glued to the spot. As he got close to the visitor, he would drop to a walk, his mouth closing and his ears comimg forward, and place his head quietly over the human's shoulder. Alla was about five years old when Reese bought him, and paid in the vicinity of $600 for him. He was greenbroke at the time, and was never ridden to any extent. When gotten up on however, he showed the same good sportsmanship as with everything else, and accepted in good grace. Alla Amarward got a total of 151 purebred registered Arabian get over twenty two years, 81 daughters, and 70 sons. He was mostly known for his lovely daughters, which most proved to be very good producers. Among them, was Alleyna, who the Reese's owned as long as they had horses. Nawari, Azefa, Vans Natta, Allaseyna, Nafala, Manuela, Fallah, Saidalla, Folla, and Riyadah were some more. Some of his exceptional son were El Nattall, Bacaram, Ziyadi, Alla Al-Jebal, Alla Hanna, and Wardamar Alla.

When Mr. Reese got so ill with cancer that he couldn't keep his horses anymore, Alla went to Charles Doner, where he lived the rest of his life. Alla died October 14, 1961, at the age of 25.
