GA’ZI
was bred by Mr. & Mrs. Leland Mekeel of Mekeel Ranch in
California. He was born in 1949. The following year he was
purchased by the Weaver family. He was with them only shortly
before Mr. Weaver met an untimely death and the colt was sold
once more, this time to a family by the name of White. It was
at this farm that he was first spotted by Dr. Eugene LaCroix,
who was wild about the ABU FARWA son. Dr. LaCroix went home,
spoke with his friend Woody Madsen, and the LASMA partnership
was formed.
GA’ZI went into
training with Woody Madsen, who trained him for halter and
western pleasure. Before long he was making trips around the
West, winning at horse shows large and small. Although he was
also trained for three-gaited and English Pleasure, he was
seldom shown in either discipline.

In 1957, Lasma was moved
to Scottsdale, Arizona by Dr. LaCroix. GA’ZI would be
trailered between Washington and Arizona for breeding and
showing season. By the late 1960’s, the LaCroix’s Polish
imported stallion *BASK++ was making a name for the Lasma
farm, and Dr.LaCroix made it possible for GA’ZI to remain
with Woody Madsen in Washington year around.
GA’ZI was probably one
of the better known of the ABU FARWA sons. Besides his
extensive show career, he was a breeding stallion of note,
siring 266 purebred foals. His foals continued on in the
tradition of all-around family horses, who could work with dad
in the morning and be shown by the kids in the afternoon and
breed a mare or two that night.

At the 1967 Canadian
Nationals, all four championships and reserves went to GA’ZI
get. They were MISS CENTURY 21 as reserve champion mare,
FAR’ZI as reserve champion stallion, GANEYN as champion
stallion and FATEENA+ as champion mare.
GA’ZI even had a filly
of his exported to Brazil.
Ga’zi was chosen to be
a ‘Living Legend’ in 1970. He died in 1978 at the age of
29.
